What types of nuts do you use in your products?
Second Nature uses peanuts, and a variety of tree nuts including: cashews, almonds, pistachios, walnuts and pecans.

The ‘Best By’ date printed on each package represents the last day the product should be consumed to guarantee the best Second Nature quality, flavor and freshness. For example, the ‘Best By’ code date of 01/25/25 means that it was packaged on January 25, 2024, and should be consumed by 01/25/25. Once opened, the freshness of our products will depend on the ingredients and your method of storage. Second Nature snacks stay freshest when stored in a cool, dark, dry place.

Second Nature packaging helps preserve the freshness of the product until it’s opened. At that point you should plan to consume the product within a few weeks. Nuts can be refrigerated or frozen to extend the shelf life to about four weeks.

We do not offer any peanut-free or tree-nut products. Our facility processes peanuts and tree-nuts. We have several practices in place to reduce the risk for potential cross contamination with allergens. All Second Nature packaging provides allergy information for the most common food allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat and soy. A great resource for information about common food allergies is: www.foodallergy.com

Note: people can be allergic to both peanuts and tree nuts. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you think you or your child may have allergies, or if you have questions about allergies.

All Second Nature products do not contain bioengineered ingredients as defined by the USDA National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard. Many of our products are Non-GMO Project Verified and carry the logo on their packaging. You can find a complete list of Non-GMO Project Verified items on their website.

Yes, our Second Nature medleys and snack nuts are Kosher! All products are certified by the Orthodox Union.

Our snack Many of our snack mixes are made with plant-based foods and contain no dairy products. However, some of our mixes that have chocolate do contain dairy, or are run on equipment that process other ingredients that contain dairy products. Due to the potential for cross-contact between non-dairy and dairy items used at our facility, we do not claim that our products or facility is Vegan friendly.

According to USDA nutrition data, caffeine is not present in peanuts or tree nuts. However, our trail mixes that contain chocolate will have naturally occurring caffeine.

What you are seeing on the dark chocolate chunks found in some of our mixes is called bloom. Chocolate blooming is common in chocolate made without preservatives. Over time, the cocoa butter inside the chocolate softens and separates from the rest of the ingredients, rises to the surface and settles leaving the chocolate with a whitish appearance. Sugar bloom can result from exposure to cool temperatures following warm temperatures. Premature fat bloom can occur when our dark chocolate chunks are in mixes with other ingredients containing oil and salt, such as our roasted and salted nuts and/or dried fruit. While it is not very visually appealing, chocolate that has bloomed is perfectly safe to eat!

While our multi-packs are made from 100% recycled content, our pouches and single serve packages are not recyclable. We are working with our suppliers to identify recyclable alternatives to our current packaging that keep our snacks fresh until you are ready to enjoy!

We are happy to share that all of our products are Gluten Free Certified by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO).
